Meet Our Executive Team

Kenneth Bateman, CPA, MHA
President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Bateman began his career at Somerset Medical Center in 2000 as vice president of financial operations and was subsequently promoted to his current position. Prior to joining the medical center, Mr. Bateman spent nearly 20 years in the health care industry, serving in a variety of capacities at acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes and psychiatric facilities. He most recently served as director of finance at the Edison-based Solaris Health System, which includes JFK Medical Center and Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center. He was also the former chief financial officer at Preferred Behavioral Health in Lakewood, and was assistant vice president of finance at Kimball Medical Center, also in Lakewood. He previously was an audit manager at KPMG Peat Marwick, Short Hills.

Bateman holds a bachelor’s degree and a master's degree in healthcare administration, both from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He was recently appointed to the board of the New Jersey Hospital Association, a 111-member advocacy organization, and serves as a member of the Raritan Valley Community College Foundation Board of Directors. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Hospital Financial Management Association.

 

 

Victoria A. Allen
Vice President of Marketing, Public Relations & Community Services

Ms. Allen joined Somerset Medical Center in 2001 as director of Marketing and Public Relations. Prior to joining the medical center, she was the manager of public relations at Morristown Memorial Hospital and several of its Atlantic Health System affiliates. She also held public relations management positions at United Children's Hospital in Newark, Elizabeth General Medical Center and the American Cancer Society.

Ms. Allen holds a master's degree in corporate and public communications from Seton Hall University and a bachelor's degree in English Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is a member of the Healthcare Planning and Marketing Society of New Jersey.

 

Mary Ann Bross
Vice President of Human Resources & Emergency Preparedness

Ms. Bross joined the medical center in 2000 as Human Resources Director before being promoted to her current position. She has spent most of her 25 years in human resources in hospital settings, including Director of Human Resources at Overlook Hospital in Summit and Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, part of Atlantic Health System. Prior to working in New Jersey, Ms. Bross was Assistant Director of Human Resources at both the St. Johns division of Catholic Medical Center in Queens, New York and Montefiore Medical Center’s Rikers Island division. She began her career as a training specialist at Marsh & McLennan, Inc. in New York.
 
Ms. Bross holds a master’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University/Baruch College in New York City and a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University at Lincoln Center. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, American Society for Training and Development and National Association of Female Executives.

 

John Carroll, MD, MBA
Vice President of Medical Affairs

Dr. Carroll previously served as chief medical officer at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York and vice president of medical affairs at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. He is a board-certified pediatrician who spent 22 years in private practice in Elmira, N.Y. He also served as lieutenant commander in the medical corps of the U.S. Navy.

A graduate of Manhattan College, Dr. Carroll earned his medical degree from the State University of New York College of Medicine at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed his postgraduate training at the University of Connecticut Medical Center in Hartford and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He obtained his master's degree in business administration from Binghamton University, N.Y.

 

Cummins

Kathleen M. Cummins, MS, RN, APN, ACNS-BC
Vice President of Nursing Operations

Cummins joined Somerset Medical Center in 1991. She has 30 years of nurse management experience, including management positions at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, where she served as vice president of nursing. She has also held faculty positions at Rutgers University College of Nursing and the College of Allied Health at the University of Vermont.

Cummins obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing from the State University of New York College of Nursing at Plattsburg and her master's degree as a clinical nurse specialist in community health and nursing administration from Rutgers University. She is a member of the New Jersey Organization of Nurse Executives and previously served as president of the Vermont State Nurses Association.

 

 

David P. Dyer
Vice President of Information Technology Services & Planning and Chief Information Officer

Mr. Dyer joined the medical center in 2000 and has more than 15 years of experience in Healthcare Information Technology. Prior to joining the medical center, he was director of information systems for JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Mr. Dyer holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of California-Santa Cruz and is a member of the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME), Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and serves on the board of the New Jersey Chapter of HIMSS.

 

 

Paul Huegel
President of Somerset Medical Center Foundation

Mr. Huegel comes to the medical center from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, where he served as the vice president of development. Huegel’s previous positions also include serving as the president of Cathedral Healthcare Foundation in Newark and president and chief executive officer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. He also held other leadership positions at Seton Hall University, Binghamton University – the State University of New York, Fairleigh Dickinson University and at Princeton University.

Mr. Huegel holds a master’s degree in corporate and organizational communication from Seton Hall University and a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University. He serves as a board member for Holiday Express and Caucus Educational Corporation and is a volunteer with The New Jersey Center for Outreach & Services for the Autism Community, Inc. for Autism Awareness Month and Autism Speaks for the Walk for Autism Research.

 

Mary Lund, MSJ, CPHQ, CPHRM
Vice President of Risk Management and Quality Services

Lund joined Somerset Medical Center in 2002. She has more than 20 years of administrative and managerial experience in the areas of health care improvement and patient safety. She holds national certifications in health care quality and health care risk management.

She obtained a bachelor's degree in management from Kean University of New Jersey. She also earned a master's of science degree in jurisprudence, with a focus on health law, from Seton Hall Law School. She is the immediate past-president of the Society of Healthcare Risk Management of New Jersey and is a faculty member of the American Society of Health Care Risk Management.

 

 

 

Glenn McCreesh
Senior Vice President of Operations

Mr. McCreesh joined Somerset Medical Center in 2008. He previously worked at Solaris Health System in Edison, where he served as the Vice President of Operations, overseeing Ancillary and Support Services, Materials Management and Physician Recruitment. Mr. McCreesh also served as Corporate Director of Budgets and Reimbursement and Decision Support; Executive Director, Project Management Office; and Vice President of Business Development and Operational Efficiency.

Mr. McCreesh is an active board member of the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey, and recently served as Board President. He is a graduate of the University of Scranton, where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting.

 

Stephen Minogue
Vice President, Sleep For Life Center

Mr. Minogue joined Somerset Medical Center in 2009. He brings extensive experience in health care management to his role. He previously worked at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton for 20 years, serving in a variety of leadership positions, including vice president of support services; assistant vice president of clinical and ambulatory services; division director of clinical and ambulatory services; and director of cardiopulmonary services. Most recently, he served as vice president of operations at Hamilton Cardiology Associates, a private cardiology practice with 11 physicians and 110 employees.

Minogue earned his bachelor's degree from Montclair State University and is a fellow of The HealthCare Advisory Board.

 

Maureen A. Schneider, PhD(c), MSN, MBA, RN
Senior Vice President of Clinical Program Development and Chief Nursing Officer

Ms. Schneider has more than 25 years of executive health care leadership experience. Prior to joining Somerset Medical Center in 2005, she served as vice president of patient care services and chief nurse executive at Nyack Hospital. Her health care management experience also includes serving as vice president of patient care services and chief nurse executive at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Ms. Schneider received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, Hunter College of the City University of New York, and a master's degree in business administration from Monmouth University. She is pursuing a doctorate from Seton Hall University. Ms. Schneider holds certifications in Nursing Administration and Quality from the College of Healthcare Executives and received the American Nurses Association Magnet Recognition Award for Nursing Excellence in 2003. She was the first nurse executive appointed to the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Hospital Association. Ms. Schneider also serves on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Organization of Nurse Executives and was the recipient of the New Jersey State Nurses Association Award for Nurse Administrator and was selected as a Wharton Fellow in the Johnson & Johnson Nurse Executive Program, both in 2003.
