Somerset Medical Center's Laboratory is a full-service laboratory accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The main Laboratory is located on the first floor in the north wing of the medical center. A staff member or one of our volunteers at the Information Desk can assist you with directions to the main laboratory.
The Laboratory completed approximately two million tests last year, making it one of the most active labs in the state. With a staff of more than 100 professionals, including three pathologists, the Laboratory is open around the clock every day of the year. Stringent quality control programs are an integral part of all testing. Somerset Medical Center's Laboratory uses Mayo Medical Laboratories for most of its esoteric testing.
Outpatient Laboratory
Somerset Medical Center's Outpatient Laboratory is located on the lobby level directly next to the Patient Access Department (Patient Registration) and Pre-Admission Testing Department. The Outpatient Laboratory is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 7a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and major holidays. Patients generally are in and out within 10 minutes of completing the registration process. Limited outpatient testing is available after hours. You will need a prescription from your health care provider requesting a "STAT" blood test. Most patients are seen on a walk-in basis. Please call the laboratory at 908-685-2922 to schedule any specialized testing such as glucose tolerance tests or semen analysis. If you have any questions about the test your health care provider has ordered (i.e., fasting), call for assistance.

In addition to meeting the needs of individual patients, Somerset Medical Center services many of the region's physician offices and home care agencies.
